After the fireworks of the US PGA Championship, the DP World Tour returns this week with the 2022 Dutch Open. 146 players will be teeing it up this week in the hope that they will be able to grab a large portion of the €2 million prize.
This week the field will tackle the Bernardus Golf Course. The course is a design of famed course designer Kyle Phillips. The course which opened up back in 2018, is a heathland course which has an abundance of contours and water features. Water is a huge feature of the course, with water playing a part in ten of the 18 holes. To be successful this week, a player will need to be incredibly accurate off the tee.
This is a course that can be got at, but a player will need to give themselves plenty of opportunities to ensure that they can make the most of the scoring opportunities.
As usual, the tournament looks wide open and for the majority of the field, this could be a rare opportunity to record a tournament victory, as only one player in the top 50 will be making an appearance this week. All of our odds are from Jazz Sports, the best place to bet on golf.
The favorite for the event is Thomas Pieters. The Belgian enters the tournament as the top-ranked player and he will be hoping to continue his recent good run of form. Pieters has five DP World Tour victories to his name and everything points towards another successful week here.
Ranked 43rd for driving accuracy, 55th for greens in regulation, and 14th in strokes gained through approach, Pieters has the game to excel here and looks like the worthy favorite for the event.
New Zealander Ryan Fox had a good showing at last week’s U.S. PGA Championship tournament. A disappointing final round saw Fox finish in 54th but he was up around the top 20 through the first three rounds. He heads to the tournament full of confidence and looks to have a live chance this week. Fox ranks 8th for strokes gained through approach and 45th in overall green percentage regulation. With two wins on Tour, Fox knows how to get the job done.
For so long Thorbjorn Olesen was one of the most consistent performers on the DP World Tour. Allegations off the course saw Olesen’s career descend into free fall but the Dane bounced back with a bang by winning the British Masters.
Putting was the key to Olesen’s victory and if he can bring that form into this tournament Olesen could be in the mix for yet another win.
Rewind two years and Victor Perez was one of the leading lights on the European Tour and looked like a guaranteed member of Europe’s Ryder Cup team. Perez couldn’t quite get the job done and his form has slightly fallen away.
Perez will be wanting to bounce back to form and it looks like this course could be set up to his strengths. When not in tournament action Perez plays his trade in Scotland where the courses match the layouts of what we will see this week. At a bigger price, Perez could be a real player.
