2023 John Deere Classic Round 1 & 2 Highlights

2023 John Deere Classic Round 1 & 2 Highlights

With the Open just a few weeks away, many of the PGA’s top stars have decided to give this week’s John Deere Classic a miss. With an opportunity for some of the PGA Tour’s lesser lights to grab some valuable FedEx Cup ranking points, it’s Cameron Young who has seized the initiative and leads the way by two strokes at the halfway stage. Here the John Deere Classic Round 1 & 2 Highlights

PGA Tour Odds

Young leads by two as he seeks his first PGA Tour win.

Cameron Young took the PGA by storm last year. His big hitting and fine ball striking saw him finish as last year’s PGA Tour Rookie of the Year.

Despite finishing in the top five of numerous events including the Open and US PGA Championship, Young is still to win on Tour but looks to have given himself a golden opportunity to end that drought this weekend.

Getting his week off to a hot start, he posted a superb opening round 65. Keen to back up that promising start, he went one stroke better in his second round finishing with a 64.

Entering the week as the highest ranked player in the field, Young will be hoping to power clear of the rest of his rivals in today’s third round.

Three players – Adam Schenk, Garrick Higgo and Brendon Todd head into today two strokes behind Young.

All three have played steady golf to work their way into this position, but of the three it’s Schenk that is yet to drop a shot through his first 36 holes.

The American finds himself at a career high ranking of 51 and has had a great 2023, finishing as a runner up of both the 2023 Valspar and 2023 Charles Schwab.

Clearly in the form of his life, don’t be surprised to see Schenk make another big move up the leaderboard today.

John Deere Classic Round 3 Betting Odds

At the halfway stage of this year’s John Deere Classic it’s Cameron Young who finds himself as the heavy favorite for glory.

Young is taking a different approach to the rest of the games biggest stars, choosing to play this week whereas others have opted to rest.

He finished second at last year’s Open and will hope to arrive at Hoylake bang in form. After multiple top five finishes, now is the time for Young to grab his first PGA victory and he looks to have a golden opportunity of doing exactly that this weekend.

Despite his two stroke lead, Young won’t have it all his own way.

We have already highlighted Adam Schenk’s performances this year and the American will be hoping to land his first ever PGA victory after two runner up finishes in 2023.

Brendon Todd has three career PGA Tour wins but hasn’t won on Tour for four years. It’s been a largely frustrating season for the veteran who has just had two top ten finishes in 2023. Todd seems to have found something in his swing this week and will be hopeful of another successful weekend.

Denny McCarthy is another player in the field who has finished as a runner up on tour this year. A playoff loser at the Memorial just a few weeks ago, McCarthy has been able to continue his good form into this week and could be today’s value angle.

Young Swedish sensation Ludvig Aberg has shown through his first two rounds that his debut professional appearance at last week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic wasn’t a fluke and will start today three strokes off the lead.

Much is expected of Aberg and there are even whispers that he could make the European Ryder Cup team later this year. Possessing a huge game, he could be one to keep an eye on today.
