Hodges continues march toward 3M Open title

Lee Hodges has led at the end of every round of this year’s 3M Open and the American showed no sign of letting up as he produced a devastating back nine to lead the tournament by five strokes.

Showing some early signs of nerves, Hodges would drop his first shot of the week on the par 4 second. Heading into the back nine level par for his round, he would rediscover his scoring touch and blitz the course with five closing birdies. Rounding out his day with a birdie at the last hole, Hodges’s round of 66 leaves him ideally placed today.

J.T Poston started the third round four strokes behind and now has five shots to overturn. Looking to land his first title since the 2022 John Deere Classic, Poston posted his second successive bogey-free round, but couldn’t quite get the vital putts to drop when they mattered most.

Tony Finau is still clinging on to Hodges coattails but has it all to do today. The winner of this title 12 months ago, he starts today six strokes behind the leader and will need to get off to a rapid start if he is to play a significant part in proceedings.

Round 4 Betting Preview

With his five-shot lead, Lee Hodges is the overwhelming favorite for victory in this year’s 3M Open. Hodges has never won on the PGA Tour with his best finish coming in the 2022 American Express where he finished in a tie for third.

With both the course and weather conditions set to remain generous, the only man who can beat Hodges today could be himself.

J.T Poston comes next in the betting. He is looking to land his third PGA Tour Title and first since the 2022 John Deere Classic. Poston has had a consistent year, having posted four top-ten finishes this year. Two of those top tens have come in the last three weeks, and if he can get his round off to a hot start he has the form to ask Hodges a few questions.

Tony Finau rounds out the top three in the betting. Although he starts today six shots behind, those wanting to back the big-hitting American should take heart from the fact that he won last year’s title by overcoming a five-stroke final-round deficit. Finau has shown on numerous occasions that he has the game to light up any course and could be the value pick of today.
