Lucas Glover leads the field through the first two rounds of this year’s Barbasol Championship. A former US Open winner back in 2009, Glover is seeking his first PGA victory since the 2021 John Deere Classic. Here the Barbasol Championship round 1 & 2 Highlights!
With the world’s best golfers already in the UK preparing for the Open, The Barbasol is the last chance saloon for those who haven’t yet bagged their place at next week’s tournament.
As well as a potential Open berth, there are vital FedEx ranking points on offer. The man currently in pole position to take advantage of all of that is Lucas Glover.
A four time winner on Tour, Glover has used all of his experience to lead the Barbasol field by two strokes. The leader after a superb -9 opening round, Glover found the scoring a little tougher yesterday but was still able to register a solid 68.
In hot pursuit of the American are a trio of players – Adam Long, Daniel Brown and Vincent Norrman. Of the three it’s Long who is the only former PGA winner and he will hope to use that winning experience to move up the leaderboard today.
Despite Glover’s two stroke advantage, twelve players will start today within four strokes of his lead. Within that group are established PGA veterans such as Taylor Pendrith, Ryan Moore and Jason Dufner. All three have the potential to chase down Glover and their chances can’t be discounted.
With his two shot lead Lucas Glover is the current favorite for victory this weekend.
It’s been an odd year for the former US Open champion who despite missing a string of cuts throughout the season seems to have sprung to life over recent weeks. Heading into the week with two consecutive top ten finishes, it’s clear that Glover is hitting the ball well. Clearly full of confidence he could be tough to peg back.
Next in the betting comes Vincent Norrman. He has found life on the PGA Tour tough this year having just posted one top ten finish all season. Having missed three cuts in his last four starts, Norrman has proved to be one of the surprise packages of the week. With lots on the line, it will be fascinating to see how he handles the occasion today.
Rounding out the top three are the duo of Adam Long and Taylor Pendrith.
Long tasted success on Tour back in 2019 and since then has gained mixed success. Another surprise contender, Long has missed the cut in five of the last six tournaments that he has started. Yet to record a top ten finish in 2023, he will be hoping to correct that poor record this weekend.
Taylor Pendrith is a name that we are becoming more accustomed to seeing and the burly Canadian finds himself in the running for PGA glory once again.
Positioned amongst the leaders in the Rocket Mortgage Classic, a poor final round saw him fall away to finish 14th. Able to hit the ball a mile, he will be hoping to give himself plenty of scoring looks today.
The wildcard of today’s third round could be Jason Dufner. Since winning the PGA Championship back in 2013, Dufner’s career has been impacted by a whole host of injuries and health scares.
2023 has been a disaster with the American missing the cut in six of his last eight starts. Supremely talented, it is brilliant to see his name at the right end of the leaderboard once again. Arguably the classiest player in the chasing group, odds of +5500 could represent some real value in what is bound to be a tense and nervy day.
