Barracuda Championship Round 3

Rodgers leads as others make their move

With most of the PGA Tour’s biggest stars trying to get their hands on the Claret Jug, this week’s Barracuda Championship has provided the perfect opportunity for some of the Tour’s lesser lights to break into the PGA’s winner’s circle.

Patrick Rodgers is a nine-year Tour veteran and after several near misses, will be hoping that today will finally be the day that he captures his first win. Starting the third round behind Ryan Gerard, Rodgers made the most of Gerard’s slow third round to lead by one.

Rodgers’ move to the top of the leaderboard certainly wasn’t a procession, as he experienced several ups and downs during his round.

After two birdies and two bogeys on his front nine, the American’s chances were in peril after a costly double bogey at the par 4 tenth. With his place at the top of the leaderboard gone, Rodgers bounced back superbly, netting an eagle on the par 5 twelfth before finishing his round with birdies on 16 and 18. His hot finish saw him end the day leading by one – but further examinations are certainly due to come.

With Gerard struggling to break away from the field, several players vaulted back into contention. One of the rounds of the day belonged to Joel Dahmen who lit up the course courtesy of five birdies in his first eight holes. Today he will start five points back.

Another man who surged up yesterday’s leaderboard was Akshay Bhatia. A stunning round of seventeen points included six birdies and one eagle. If he can carry that momentum into today’s final round, he will be a danger to all.

Round 4 Betting Preview

Patrick Rodgers has a golden chance to finally lift the first PGA Tour title of his career as heads out into the final round holding a slender one-point lead.

Rodgers has been a model of consistency, having consistently played well enough to maintain his PGA status for the best part of a decade and has suffered several near misses along the way. Three times he has finished as a runner-up on Tour and he will be hoping he can go one better today.

Ryan Gerard announced himself to the PGA Tour with a boom after posting a top-five finish at the Honda Classic. Since earning that top-five finish, life on Tour has become tough with Gerard missing a string of cuts and recording several lowly finishes. However, this week has been different as the man from North Carolina has been striking the ball beautifully. Despite a slow round yesterday which saw him finish the day where he started, he finds himself just one point behind and still in with a great chance of victory.

Akshay Bhatia was tearing up the course yesterday and is another who will be hoping to end today with his first PGA title. A top-ten finisher at last week’s Barbasol Championship, Bhatia has brought that good form into this week with his third round consisting of one eagle and seven birdies. Anything close to that performance is likely to be good enough and he could represent some real value today.

Another man to keep an eye on could be first-round leader Beau Hossler. Hossler got off to a hot start recording seventeen points through his first eighteen holes. Things have been slower since, with the big American scoring thirteen points through his next 36 holes. Despite two reasonably poor rounds he still finds himself bang in contention and if he can get his putter hot again, he could be another man to keep an eye on.
