Taiwanese player C.T Pan who leads by two strokes heading into the final round of this year’s Canadian Open

Canadian Open Round 3 Highlights + Round 4 Odds

After one of the most absorbing days of the PGA season so far, it is Taiwanese player C.T Pan who leads by two strokes heading into the final round of this year’s Canadian Open.  Here the Canadian Open Round 3 Highlights.

The tournament is far from over, and there is no shortage of challengers to Pan’s lead. Six players are grouped on -12, just two strokes behind – with the most notable names being a trio of British players which includes Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, and Tommy Fleetwood.

Canadian Open Rounds 3 Highlights

Pan surges to the front, McIlroy primed for treble bid.

A dramatic third round at this year’s Canadian Open started with Chinese player Carl Yuan leading the way. A wildly inconsistent round saw Yuan lose his place at the top of the leaderboard and a costly double bogey on the par 4 16th would see him end a disappointing day in a tie for 16th.

Whilst Yuan was having his struggles, others were quickly making hay.

The first to post the clubhouse lead was Tommy Fleetwood. Fleetwood’s brilliant third round of 64 consisted of eight birdies across a twelve-hole stretch. Yet to win on Tour, he has set himself up perfectly to win his first title in over four years.

All Canadian eyes were on Corey Connors who started the third round just two off the lead. However, those gazes were quickly drawn elsewhere, as Nick Taylor became the top ranked Canadian in the field thanks to a stunning round of 63. No Canadian has won this tournament since 1954 and Taylor will hope to be the man to break that long sequence. He will start today three off the lead.

Rory McIlroy looks to have rediscovered his swing just in time for next week’s US Open and is bidding to become the first man since Steve Stricker to win the same PGA tournament three years consecutively.

His third round 66 contained six birdies and he has now gone 42 holes without dropping a shot. If he can continue to keep his ball out of trouble, he will be the one they will all need to beat.

Mark Hubbard and Justin Rose kept up their good form and were able to match McIlroy’s 66 to remain firmly in contention.

Round 4 Betting Preview

Nine players will start within four strokes of the lead that is held by C.T Pan.

Despite sitting two strokes off the lead, Rory McIlroy will start today as the tournament favorite. A winner of this event in each of the last two years, McIlroy has spoken of the high regard he holds this tournament in and will be desperate for a third successive victory.

Current leader C.T Pan comes next in the betting and the Taiwanese star hopes to end his poor start to the 2023 campaign.

Injuries and a loss of form have seen him play in just four PGA events this year. A winner of the RBC Heritage back in 2019, Pan is a far classier player than his current ranking of 194 indicates. No stranger to the top of the leaderboard he could be the value play of today.

Two Englishmen round out the top three in the betting with Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood starting the day two strokes behind.

Justin Rose has been in superb form this season, winning the AT&T at Pebble Beach as well as finishing in the top ten at the PGA Championship. A former world number one, Rose has won eleven PGA Tour titles and looks well placed for win number 12.

Tommy Fleetwood has long been a fixture inside the world’s top thirty but has never won on the PGA Tour. The man from Liverpool can’t seem to string four consistent rounds together but is more than capable of winning a prestigious tournament like this. If Fleetwood can keep his ball on the fairway and his inconsistencies at bay, he could be one to watch with real interest.
