Charles Schwab Challenge Rounds 1 & 2 Recap

Charles Schwab Challenge Rounds 1 & 2 Recap

After the drama of last week’s PGA Championship, the PGA Tour bandwagon has rolled onto Colonial for this year’s Charles Schwab Challenge. Here the Charles Schwab Challenge Rounds 1 & 2 Recap

An iconic stop on the PGA Tour it’s Englishman Harry Hall who leads the way after 36 holes. A first round 62 was backed up by a second round 66 with Hall leading the way on -12.

Hall’s nearest challenger is Harris English who will start today three strokes back on -9.

PGA Tour Odds

Hall starts fast, Scheffler finds himself six back.

Few would have picked Englishman Harry Hall to be leading through the halfway stage at this year’s Charles Schwab Challenge, but the Englishman has gotten off to a blistering start to lead the way.

Coming into the week ranked 197 in the world, Hall’s previous best PGA performance came in the 2021 Shriners Children’s Open where he finished in a tie for eighth. Twice a winner on the Korn Ferry Tour, Hall knows what it takes to win, but heads into the weekend firmly in uncharted territory.

Trying to pursue the Englishman is Harris English. English seemed to have the world at his feet before having to take a significant break from the tour due to a severe hip injury.

Still working his way back to his best, English has shown signs of life this season with a third-place finish in the Wells Fargo Championship and a second-place finish at the Arnold Palmer.

Finding himself bang in contention once more, English created one of the moments of the tournament yesterday with a hole in one on the par 3 eighth hole. A four-time tour winner, he will be confident of overturning the three-stroke deficit he currently faces.

Lurking down the field is world number one Scottie Scheffler. Scheffler reclaimed the top spot in the world rankings following his second-place finish at last week’s PGA Championship.

Scheffler has found himself leading at this stage in both of his last two starts and has failed to go on and win on both occasions. Starting six shots off the pace could be right up his street and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Texan amongst the leaders at the end of the day.

Charles Schwab Challenge Round 3 Betting Preview

Despite heading into today’s third round with a three-stroke lead, Harry Hall finds himself joined at the top of the betting alongside world number one Scottie Scheffler.

Hall finds himself in the lead courtesy of a superb opening round that saw him motor away from the rest of the field. Whilst his -4, 66 was solid yesterday, the odd error was starting to creep into the Englishman’s game, and it will be fascinating to see how he handles both the pressure and occasion today.

Scottie Scheffler left his PGA Championship charge a little too late last week and will rue a poor third round which left him with just too much to do. Third rounds haven’t been too kind to Scheffler in recent weeks, with the Texan posting poor scores to drop out of the lead of both the PGA and AT&T Championships, ultimately costing him both tournaments.

Starting the day six strokes off the lead, Scheffler has plenty of work to do today if he is to put himself in the picture for his third title of the season.

Rounding out the top three in the betting is Harris English. A former fixture in the top ten of the world rankings, English has had to restart his career after a troublesome hip injury cost him almost a year of his career. With two top tens in 2023, English’s game looks to be trending in the right direction again and at decent odds he could be the value play of the round.

Justin Rose could be a player to keep an eye on today. He will start round 3 on -5, seven shots off the lead. Already a winner this season having won the AT&T Pebble Beach, that good form has continued, and he played well to finish in the top ten at last week’s PGA Championship. Playing some of the best golf he has played in years he could be one of the better long-shot bets of the day.
