DP World Tour – SDC Championship Odds & Picks

After playing in a series of events here last December, the DP World Tour returns to South Africa for the first of two events in the country. The SDC Championship at St. Francis Links is an inaugural event that’s co-sanctioned with the Sunshine Tour, which is South Africa’s top pro golf tour.

The top-10 golfers from that tour join five of the last 11 winners on the DP World Tour for this event in St. Francis Bay in South Africa.

The Course

St. Francis Links, which opened in 2007 and was designed by Jack Nicklaus, has hosted several Sunshine Tour events and the South African PGA Championship, but this will be the first time the DP World Tour takes the course on. It’s a par 72 and measures 7,192 yards—including a massive 620-yard 16th hole that can be even more of a beast if the wind is a factor. Dean Burmester, who is not in the field, holds the course record at 17-under.

No Clear-Cut Favorite This Week

Antoine Rozner and Jordan Smith are the favorites at +1800

But neither have played on this course before. Rozner won this season in Mauritius and had top-10s in Singapore and Thailand before missing the cut in Kenya last week. Perhaps a weekend to clear his head will help going into this links test. Smith also missed the cut his last time out, which was last month in Thailand. He doesn’t have a top-10 finish in 2023. While he also didn’t post a top 10, Smith performed well on links courses last year.

Other SDC Championship Contenders

Joost Luiten (+2500)

Has been playing on the DP World Tour as it made its way through Asia, taking last week in Kenya off. He’s coming off back-to-back third-place finishes, however, in Thailand and India.

Ryo Hisatsune (+3000)

Is also in great form after finishing third in Kenya last week. It’s a part of three top-10s in his last four starts. Sami Valimaki, also +3000, was runner-up at the Joburg Open in South Africa last November and also has another runner-up finish in Singapore last month.

George Coetzee (+2800)

Won on this course a year ago at -15. He really excelled on the par 5s, shooting -12 on the long holes.

Oliver Bekker (+3500) and Thriston Lawrence (+5500)

Are two other recent winners in South Africa worth watching—and both have great value with their odds.

Given that there’s value in nearly every golfer in the field, we’re going go with ones who have a history on this course. We’ll back Coetzee as our main pick with Bekker and Lawrence behind them. For non-South Africans, we’ll go with the good form exhibited by Rozner and Luiten.
