European Ryder Cup Team Odds and Betting Preview

European Ryder Cup Team Top Stars Look to Extend Win Streak on Home Soil at 2023 Ryder Cup

Despite suffering the most lopsided loss in Ryder Cup history in 2021 (19-9), Team Europe enters the 2023 edition with some momentum.

Once the teams were announced, the European squad cut the odds considerably, going from around a +135 underdog to nearly evening the odds (Team USA is at -110; Europe is at +100).

The European team has three of the world’s top-four golfers at the top of the team along with plenty of experience on the course.

European Team’s Edge at Marco Simone

All 12 of the European team members recently practiced at Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome, whereas the U.S. team sent just nine players to scope out the course.

In addition, the Italian Open has taken place at the course over the past three years, and plenty of members of this team have had success there.

In 2021, Nicolai Hojgaard was the winner, with Tommy Fleetwood finishing in the runner-up spot.

For 2022, four members of the team finished in the top 10: winner Robert MacIntyre, Matt Fitzpatrick in second, Rory McIlroy placed fourth, and Tyrrell Hatton was eighth. This past May, Hojgaard finished tied for fifth.

Who Will Carry Team Europe?

Here’s a look at some of the stars on the European team who will try to lead it to victory on home soil, where they haven’t lost since 1993.

Rory McIlroy: McIlroy is up to No. 2 in the world (behind Scottie Scheffler of the U.S.) but is playing more consistently great golf than anyone on the planet. McIlroy has placed out of the top 10 just once since May’s PGA Championship, and that was due to a poor final round at the Irish Open a few weeks ago. McIlroy, who is competing in his seventh Ryder Cup, said the embarrassment of the loss from 2021 allowed him to refocus his game, and he’s been on fire ever since, winning six times worldwide over the past two years and capturing both the 2022 FedEx Cup and DP World Tour season-long titles.

Jon Rahm: The Spaniard was in McIlroy’s position from last fall to the Masters in April, winning six times and climbing to the top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking. He’s cooled a bit since but was runner-up at The Open Championship in July and finished in the top five at the BMW PGA Championship a couple of weeks ago.

Viktor Hovland: Hovland proved last month that he can perform on the big stage, winning the BMW Championship in dramatic fashion with a 61 on the final day and running away with the PGA Tour Championship title the following week. He got Ryder Cup experience under his belt in 2021, so expect him to be a key part of the team this time around.

2023 Ryder Cup Odds

One of the most popular prop bets for the Ryder Cup is predicting the top-point scorer for each team. Of the three top favorites, we like Hovland. Rahm isn’t quite in top form, and sometimes, McIlroy can get too hyped for an event (see his missed cut at the Masters this year). Further down, we have our eye on Fleetwood and rookie Ludvig Aberg, the rookie Swede who is riding a big hot streak.

Here are the latest odds for the top European point scorer from JazzSports for the 2023 Ryder Cup.

Jon Rahm+400
Rory McIlroy+450
Viktor Hovland+450
