European Tour Returns to Celtic Manor in Wales for Cazoo Open
Wednesday, July 21st, 2021
The event historically known as the Wales Open tees off Thursday morning at the Celtic Manor Resort, home of the 2010 Ryder Cup. The tournament starts a multiyear sponsorship with car retailer Cazoo along with a partnership with international football star Gareth Bale. Thus, this is the first tournament billed the Cazoo Open Supported by Gareth Bale for the European Tour pros.
The event was held in 2020 for the first time since 2014 with Frenchman Romain Langasque winning by two strokes over Sami Valimaki. Langasque was five shots behind Sebastian Soderberg going into the final round, but Langasque shot a 65 to take the lead into the clubhouse, and Soderberg shot a triple-bogey 8 on the final hole when he needed a birdie to force a playoff. It remains Langasque’s only win on the PGA European Tour.
Justin Harding, coming off a top-20 finish at The Open Championship last weekend at Royal St. George’s, is a two-time winner on the European Tour and among the favorites here. He was higher up the leaderboard last weekend before a +2 72 during the final round on Sunday.
Ian Poulter and Graeme McDowell are among those who have won in the past at Celtic Manor.
Matt Wallace, an Englishman who made the cut at last week’s Open Championship, the Masters, and U.S. Open this year and scored a third-place finish at the Valero Texas Open, is the odds-on favorite at +800. He has four wins on the European Tour, three of which came in 2018.
Sam Horsfield is also one of the favorites, having won twice last season and recording a fifth-place finish at the BMW International Open last month.
Here are the odds from JazzSports for the top golfers at the European Tour – Cazoo Open Supported by Gareth Bale.
