The golfing world was fixated on the Albany Golf Club as Tiger Woods made his first start since the 2023 Masters in this year’s Hero World Challenge. Here the Hero World Challenge Round 1 Recap and Round 2 Betting Preview & Betting Odds!
Despite Wood’s presence, it’s Tony Finau and 2023 Open Champion Brian Harman who lead the way heading into today’s second round.
After completing his first competitive round in over 200 days, Tiger Woods will look back on his first round with some regret and blamed ‘rust’ for his opening round 75.
After a solid start, Woods headed up the 15th sitting on -1, however with fatigue starting to play a part, he struggled over the final four holes, dropping four strokes, to end the day on +3.
With Woods battling, others were busy putting themselves in a strong early position for victory.
Brian Harman has enjoyed a career year and would have ended yesterday with the sole lead had it not been for a disappointing bogey on his final hole.
He is joined at the top of proceedings by Tony Finau.
Now ranked 22nd in the world, the big hitting American is looking to bounce back into the upper echelons of the game. Offering a timely reminder of his class, Finau dropped just one stroke on his way to an opening round 67 and will hope to light up the course once again today.
Starting within two strokes of the lead, and hoping to make their moves are Jordan Spieth, Max Homa, Collin Morikawa, Scottie Scheffler and Cameron Young.
After the first eighteen holes of the 2023 Hero World Challenge, the current favorite for victory is world number one, Scottie Scheffler.
Scheffler’s first round got off to a rough start as the Texan surprisingly bogeyed three of his first five holes. Showing all of his trademark calmness, Scheffler was able to put that sluggish start behind him and went onto post six birdies through his final twelve holes to end the day just two shots back.
After embarking on a winless run that stretched over almost two years, Collin Morikawa finally put that drought to an end as he strolled to victory in the 2023 Zozo Championship.
Having finally found his form, the two-time major winner seems to have carried on where he left off and hit the ball extremely well on his way to an opening round 69. He will be looking to strengthen his position further today.
Rounding out the top three in the betting are Brian Harman and Max Homa.
Homa has kept himself busy over the last few months and won for the first time on the DP World Tour when winning the 2023 Nedbank Challenge. Clearly confident, Homa will be looking to land his third title of the year.
Harman clearly loves these conditions and his first-round display reminded everyone of his emphatic 2023 Open victory. As gritty a competitor as they come, Harman is bound to find himself in the mix once more by the end of play today.
