John Deere Round 4 Preview

John Deere Round 4 Preview & Round 3 Recap

We have reached the final round of this year’s John Deere Classic and we are in for a fascinating conclusion. Leading the way is J.T Poston. Sitting at -19, Poston has posted a lead after each of the three rounds and will be looking to complete a gate-to-wire win with one more solid round. Poston will start today with a three-stroke lead. A win would see him net his second PGA Tour title. Check out the John Deere Round 4 Preview!

Round 3 Recap

Just in behind Poston are a whole host of players who will be hoping that a low round could see them bound into contention. Sitting three strokes off the lead are the trio of Emiliano Grillo, Scott Stallings, and Denny McCarthy.

Both Grillo and McCarthy have been in the mix over the last few rounds, but it was Stallings who forced himself into contention with a stunning third-round performance posting a -7, 64. He will play alongside Poston in today’s final pairing.

Stallings has provided some mixed results of late having missed the cut in two of his last four starts, but when the American has recently made the cut, he has finished in a tie for 4th at the Charles Schwab and a tie for 8th at last week’s Travelers. Clearly, the putter is in fine working order, and Stallings could be the main rival to Poston today.

TPC Deere Run has a very friendly layout and there will be a host of players who will believe they have the capabilities to shoot a really low score. Fourteen players will start the day within seven strokes of the lead and each one still has a realistic shot of winning.

Today’s final round has more on the line than just the prospect of a regular PGA Tour victory. The top 3 highest finishers who haven’t qualified for the Open will earn a place in the field for the last major of the year. It will be even more special, as this year the Open is headed to St Andrews, the spiritual home of the game. With so much on the line, it’s set to be a great day of action.

Round 4 Preview

J.T Poston started Round 3 with a four-stroke lead and has seen that overall lead reduced by one. Yesterday Poston didn’t seem too troubled by holding the lead and produced a fine 67. Poston had only recorded one bogey in his first two rounds but did double this in round 3. In a course such as Deere Run, Poston knows he can’t just play par golf and will need to keep on posting birdies. Odds of -105 could look a bit skinny, especially if somebody can make an early move.

Emiliano Grillo is the only player left in the field not to have recorded a single bogey across his three rounds. The Argentine hasn’t won on the PGA Tour since 2015 and he would welcome a return to the winners’ circle. Grillo shot a superb -6, 65 yesterday and carries a lot of positive momentum into today’s round. Odds of +700 could be the value pick of the day.

We flagged yesterday that Denny McCarthy +550, is arguably the form man in the field following a tied 5th finish at the Memorial and a tied 7th finish at the US Open. McCarthy kept the pressure up on Poston by positing a positive -5, 66 but will need to produce something low again to compete.

At a huge price and starting day seven behind is the Australian Cam Davis. Davis, a winner of last year’s Rocket Mortgage was going really low until a double-bogey at the 11th derailed his progress. Davis has the long game to do really well on this layout and if he can drive the ball well odds of +6000 could look vastly overpriced.
