KPMG Women’s PGA Championship Odds, Field and Picks

The second major of the LPGA season is upon us with the world’s finest female golfers heading to New Jersey for this year’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

Awaiting the players this week is the tricky Baltusrol Course. Measuring 6,831 yards, Baltusrol is no stranger to hosting top-class events having hosted both the men’s and women’s US Open in the past. With narrow fairways, undulating greens and thick rough – this will be one of the toughest tests of the year.

With a field of 156, due to compete, we cast our eye over some of the main challengers.

KPMG Women’s PGA Championship Favorites

The current favorite for the tournament is Thai star Atthaya Thitikul. At just twenty years old, Thitikul has quickly become one of the most consistent players on the LPGA Tour.

Twice a winner, she has posted a remarkable seven top-ten finishes this season. Finishing 4th in the Chevron Championship earlier this year, she also finished fourth in this tournament last year and will be hoping this week will provide her major breakthrough.

Next in the betting comes Jin Young Ko. A dominant force on Tour, Ko has already won twice this season and unlike Thitikul already has two majors to her name having won both the Chevron and Evian Championships back in 2019.

It’s now been four years since she last tasted major success and she will be desperate to put that record right. Always up and around the top of the leaderboard she has nine top-ten finishes in her last sixteen majors and looks well set to contend once more.

Rounding out the top three in the betting is American star, Nelly Korda. The winner of this tournament back in 2021, Korda has had a mixed year so far. Having finished third in the Chevron, a troublesome back injury has limited her to just two starts since April. Heading into this week Korda has declared she is 100% fit and could be a good option at a decent price.

Value bets

If you like to back players in form, then Leona Maguire could be the player for you. In what had been a relatively slow start to her season, Maguire reminded the golfing world of what she can do by winning last week’s Meijer LPGA Classic. With three consecutive top-ten finishes she looks to have peaked at exactly the right moment for this year’s tournament.

Danielle Kang will take her place in the field this week but is still working her way back to full fitness following an infection that severely derailed her season.

A six-time winner on the LPGA Tour, she is a former winner of this event having won back in 2017. Whilst that remains her only major win to date, she has shown on countless occasions she has the class to contend at these big events and shouldn’t be discounted.

Rose Zhang has taken the golfing world by storm following her win in the Mizuho Open on her professional debut. At just twenty years old, huge things are expected of Zhang with many believing she could dominate the women’s game for years to come. Whilst she is still new to the major scene, her class can’t be denied, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see her at the top of the leaderboard come Sunday evening.

Long shots

In a field this deep it could be worth siding with one or two long shots.

Lexi Thompson was meant to be the future of women’s golf, but she hasn’t quite been able to live up to her huge potential. A winner of the Chevron Championship back in 2014, she posted her best result in last year’s LPGA where she finished second. A huge hitter of the ball, she is more than capable of a big performance this week.

Charley Hull also falls under the category of big hitters. An LPGA Tour winner for the first time this year, Hull is yet to land a coveted major. Often let down by her putting, if she can discover her scoring touch on the greens she could rate it as a real danger to all in the field.
