The LIV Golf series plays its first event in Australia, which is the home country of CEO Greg Norman along with a few of its golfers as well. Here our LIV Golf Adelaide betting preview
It’s the fourth tournament of the 14-event LIV season in 2023. Brooks Koepka is coming off a win in the last LIV event in Orlando and also a strong showing at the Masters, where he led going into the final round and tied for second with fellow LIV member Phil Mickelson. Charles Howell III, who won the season-opener in Mexico, is the points leader.
The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide hosts the 54-hole LIV event starting Friday. Norman himself won here in 1976 and has hosted the Women’s Australian Open twice in recent years. It’s a short 6,946-yard course for a par 72, but fairways are narrow and lined with trees on each side, so accuracy will be paramount. Greens are well protected by bunkers, so greens in regulation will be another key stat.
Is the home-country favorite, having won the Australian PGA Championship in the country back in December. His Ripper GC team is composed of fellow Australians in Marc Leishman, Matt Jones, and Jediah Morgan. Cameron Smith has the talent to win, but the problem for the four is that they’ve struggled as a unit, logging just two top-10 finishes this season among the four of them.
The other co-favorite, is a much safer bet if you’re taking form into account. Koepka is the only two-time winner on the LIV tour, having won in Jeddah last year and then in LIV Golf Orlando a few weeks ago. His sitting atop the leaderboard at Augusta all weekend until the final nine holes also has to be taken into account.
Is one of the most talented golfers on the circuit, but he’s having trouble finding his way this season. After an 11th at LIV Golf Mayakoba, he last two results have been in the 30s. Dustin Johnson (+1200) dominated the circuit in 2022 and is showing a bit more of his typical form as of late. His results are trending in the right direction after posting finishes of 37th, 13th, and seventh so far this season. Johnson made the cut at Augusta but had a miserable weekend (+9 in the final two rounds) to finish 48th.
Finished tied for fourth at the Masters, where he had won in 2018, and matched his fourth-place finish at LIV Golf Orlando the week before. His A+ short game should benefit him on this course.
have been the two most consistent players this LIV season. Each have a runner-up finish and have not finished outside the top 10 this year.
While it would be easy to favor Koepka or Smith, we like the idea of a first-time LIV winner here, and there’s some decent value in Reed, Ortiz, and Uihlein.
