LIV Golf Valderrama Odds, Field and Betting Picks

LIV Golf tees off this weekend for the first time since it was announced that the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF)—the financial backers behind LIV—have entered into a preliminary agreement with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. Check the 2023 LIV Golf Valderrama Odds and our betting picks here!

The circuit visits Europe for the first time since its debut tournament in London in June 2022 for LIV Golf Andalucia, taking place in Spain at the historic Real Club Valderrama. LIV also returns to London later in July prior to the playing of the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool in England. This also marks the beginning of the second half of the 2023 LIV Golf schedule, as it’s the eighth of 14 events this year.

The Course

Valderrama was constructed in 1974 and was rated the top course in mainland Europe by Golf World magazine in 1999. It also played host to the 1997 Ryder Cup. The course’s signature hole is the par-5, 582-yard fourth hole. It’s a par-71, 7,028 course that finishes with plenty of birdie opportunities—a par-3 15th, par-4 16th and 18th, and a par-5 17th

The course has held an annual tournament on the DP World Tour in recent years, which Garcia won in three of the last eight times it was contested. He also holds the 72-hole tournament record with a 12-under 272 in 2017.

Cameron Smith Favored Over Group That Includes Garcia

Cameron Smith (+700) hasn’t made as much noise as he did last year when he won the US Open Championship, two PGA Tour events, and a LIV Golf tournament, but he has finished in the top 10 in the last four LIV events, including a runner-up at Tulsa. In addition, he placed in the top 10 in both the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open two weeks ago. He’ll also be looking to round into form as he prepares to defend his title at the Open later in July.

Brooks Koepka (+1100) and Dustin Johnson (+1200) are next and both tasted victory in recent weeks. Koepka won in Orlando back in April before claiming victory at the PGA Championship in May. Johnson won the 2023 LIV Golf Tulsa event but struggled in DC by finishing 27th. Interestingly, Johnson has never come in the top five in any LIV event played outside the U.S. At Valderrama, however, the greens are bentgrass, which is a favorite of Johnson’s.

Sergio Garcia (+1300) will be the crowd favorite, and he will put pressure on himself to perform well. He calls Valderrama his favorite course in the world, and he’s won here enough to back that up. In addition to the three wins, he’s finished in the top 10 14 times in 15 professional events on the course. Garcia struggled in his last two starts but finished runner-up in Singapore in May.

Other Contenders

Harold Varner III (+1500) got better and better with each result this season until he reached the pinnacle by winning in Washington, DC. Unfortunately for Varner, he can’t climb any higher this week but expect him to keep playing well. Talor Gooch is also at +1500 and the season-long points leader, but that result is largely thanks to his back-to-back wins in Adelaide and Singapore in the spring. Otherwise, he hasn’t finished better than 14th in the other five tournaments.

Bryson DeChambeau (+1600) is starting to turn things around and provide some consistent results. He took home top-10 finishes in his last two LIV starts and was fourth at the PGA Championship and 20th at the U.S. Open. His length off the tee will also help him shorten the long par 5s.

Mito Pereira (+1600) is starting to heat up after a slow start to his first season with LIV Golf. He has top-five finishes in two of his last three starts.

While not a huge longshot, Branden Grace is an attractive pick at +2500. The South African is second in the points standings on the heels of a third- and second-place effort in his last two starts. He has three top-fives on the season and won on the LIV circuit in 2022. He was eligible to play in the U.S. Open but opted to rest up for this stretch in July.

Henrik Stenson (+3000) showed he can come out of nowhere to win like he did last year at Bedminster in his first tournament with LIV Golf. The Swede finished fifth in Washington, D.C., so the needle is pointing up for the veteran who is well-poised to handle Valderrama’s challenges.

Dean Burmester (+3000) has a third and two eighth-place finishes in his last five starts. He also won on the DP World Tour in Spain in 2021 and also had a fourth-place finish in the country that year.

Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra (+3500) showed that he can win on this circuit after doing so last year in Thailand. The 23-year-old only has one top-five to his credit this year, which came two events ago in Tulsa. But Lopez-Chacarra is another Spanish golfer in the field, having been born in Madrid, so expect him to be at his best for his first professional tournament at the famous Valderrama course.

2023 LIV Golf Valderrama Odds

It seems that Smith is poised for a victory after solid and consistent play as of late. Johnson is a proven commodity and +1200 is good value. Speaking of good value, Garcia at +1300 seems like a no-brainer given his history at this course. Since he’s performed so well here, expect him not to be bothered by any added pressure to win. It’s tough to get behind any longshots because their odds are not extremely high, but Lopez-Chacarra is worth a shot.
