Northern Trust 36 Hole Recap

The first leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs is halfway complete, and the field for the Northern Trust 36 hole has been narrowed down to the top 63 players and ties as we head into the weekend at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, N.J.

Jon Rahm, the #1 ranked player in the world, leads after 36-holes of a play with a 12-under, one shot better than Tony Finau. Rahm (+160) is also the heavy favorite moving into the weekend to win the tournament.

Justin Thomas, Keith Mitchell, and Xander Schauffele are two strokes back. Schauffele tied for the low round on Friday, joining Jordan Spieth with a 9-under second round.

Dustin Johnson and Collin Morikawa, the #2 and #3 ranked players in the world, failed to make the cut but will be teeing it up next week at the BMW Championship.

Rounding out the top ten are four players at T6 and a pair of players tied for tenth. Those players at T6 are 9-under and only three shots back, and those names include Kevin Na, Alex Noren, Harold Varner III, and Tom Hoge. Brooks Koepka and Speith are in the mix at 8-under, four shots back of Rahm after 36 holes of play.

Rahm is the betting favorite, and the only thing that has stopped the 26-year old lately has been a pair of positive COVID-19 tests. The Spaniard hasn’t finished outside the top-8 in his has four events and won his first major in June at the U.S. Open.

There is a lot of golf to be played with many elite players near the top of the leaderboard. Behind Rahm, the value gets a lot better. Thomas and Schauffele, a pair of players who have won this year and just one shot back, can be grabbed at +700 over at Finau also headlines the top of the odds board at +750 to win.
