Shriners Children’s Open Round 1 & 2 Recap

Shriners Children’s Open Round 1 & 2 Recap

At the halfway stage of this year’s Shriners Children’s Open, Cameron Champ and Lanto Griffin lead the way on -12. Champ and Griffin lead a clustered leaderboard, Lexi Thompson almost repeats history, misses cut by two. Here the Shriners Children’s Open Round 1

PGA Tour Odds

Most of the build up to this year’s Shriners Children’s Open was dominated by Lexi Thompson becoming only the seventh woman in history to participate in a PGA event.

Thompson’s first found 73 left her with plenty of work to do to make the weekend. A second round 69 saw her climb the leaderboard, but it wouldn’t be enough as she would go onto miss the cut by two strokes.

With all eyes on Thompson, Beau Hossler’s superb opening round 62 that saw him end the first day on top went largely unnoticed.

Looking to kick on and assert his lead further, Hossler struggled to find the same levels of consistency and a costly double bogey on the par 3 seventeenth saw him tumble out of the lead.

With Hossler struggling, both Cameron Champ and Lanto Griffin took full advantage.

Champ has long been regarded as one of the biggest hitters on Tour and was able to back up his opening round 63 with a second round 67.

Griffin got his second round off to the perfect start with four birdies in his opening four holes. Two more birdies would follow on the 16th and 18th holes, and he has put himself in a strong position to win his first tournament since 2019.

Shriners Children’s Open Round 3 Betting Preview

The current favorite for victory is Cameron Champ. Champ burst onto the scene back in 2018 when winning the Sanderson Farms Championships. Two further titles have followed, but he is now without a win since the 3M Open back in 2021.

2023 has been a tough year for Champ who has missed eleven cuts in the twenty tournaments he has played. A ninth-place finish at last week’s Sanderson Farms suggested that maybe he had turned the corner, and he seems to have bought that positive form into this week.

Despite starting today two strokes off the lead, J.T Poston comes next in the betting. Ranked as one of the highest players in the field, he has posted numerous top ten finishes in 2023 without getting his head in front. A classy operator, he will hope that record changes today.

Lanto Griffin rounds out the top three in the betting. Griffin has yet to post a single top ten effort this year but will hope to wrap up a great week by winning his first title since 2019.

Two names to keep an eye on are Henrik Norlander and Cameron Davis.

Norlander was unlucky not to have won last week’s Sanderson Farms having lost in a five-man playoff. In great form, he could be the best value angle of the day.

Cam Davis has long been tipped for stardom. Supremely talented, Davis is more than capable of clawing back the four-stroke deficit he currently faces and could be worth a small play.
