The Cambia Portland Classic Preview
Friday, September 17th, 2021
The longest-running non-major tournament on the LPGA Tour is back this weekend. Now in its 50th year, The Cambia Portland Classic, played on the Columbia Edgewater Country Club in West Linn, Oregon, will again feature the world’s top women, professional golfers.
Originally named the Portland Ladies Classic and first played in 1972, it has raised over $18 million for local organizations over the past 49 years. The only change in this historic tournament besides the name is in 2013; it was changed from a 54-hole event to the current 72-hole event.
Let’s take a look at this excellent golf field to see who actually has a shot at winning this tournament.
Based on golf odds provided by Jazz Sports, Jin Young Ko is the current favorite with +600 odds to win it all, and why not. Young Ko has been fantastic throughout the entire 2021 season, winning at the Volunteers of America Classic this past July.
Sitting right behind Young Ko with +900 odds to win it all is Patty Tavatanakit. With a win earlier in the season at the ANA Inspiration and top ten finishes in both the Women’s PGA Championship and Women’s British Open, Tavatanakit is poised to make a run and contend on Sunday.
Lurking right behind the top two favorites is someone to keep an eye on. Canadian, Brooke Henderson sits at +1000 odds to win it all as projected by Jazz Sports. The Canadian has won this event on two previous occasions, including b a record winning score and the widest winning margin in 2015. This year, the 24-year-old has already picked up a win on the LPGA Tour after beating Jessica Korda by one stroke in the Hugel-Air Premia LA Open in April.
If you are looking for a sleeper in the field, take a look at Yealimi Noh. Noh is a golfer I’ve had my eye on for a while now, and one of the few bright spots of the American Solheim team, Noh has been on an excellent run of golf the last four events with four top 15s, one being a 3rd at the PGA Championship. Noh is looking to make a name for herself, and with the talent in this field, if she can stay close, she will do just that.
