Tour Championship Round 3 Recap & Round 4 Odds

Viktor Hovland stands on the cusp of winning this season’s FedEx Championship as he leads by six strokes heading into the final round of the Tour Championship. Here the Tour Championship Round 3 Recap

On a day that was impacted by inclement weather, Xander Schauffele emerged from the pack to be the Norwegian’s nearest challenger

Hovland on FedEx brink after another dramatic day of golf

Viktor Hovland moved into a commanding lead of the Tour Championship as his third round 66 was one of the best rounds of the day.

With the weather playing havoc, it was all about survival as several players struggled in the blustery conditions.

With Chaos all around him, Hovland did an exceptional job of staying cool and composed.

Starting the day in a share of the lead with Collin Morikawa, Morikawa dropped his first shots of the week and tumbled out of the lead when double bogeying the tricky par 4 fifth.

It would be a tough day for the two time major winner with further dropped strokes on the 10th and 11th holes. A sole birdie on the 16th did little to improve his position and he will start today’s final round seven shots off the lead.

Morikawa wasn’t the only one to struggle, Scottie Scheffler suffered yet another disappointing day on the greens. His round of 73 has all but ended his chances with the world number one starting today nine strokes off the lead.

Jon Rahm was another who came in over par and the world number three also finds himself nine behind.

With others struggling, Hovland steadied. Showing nerves of steel he birdied the 6th, 7th, 12th and 13th holes to open up his lead. Whilst a bogey would follow on the 14th he showed all of his class to immediately respond with another birdie on the 15th. Pars all the way home would ensure that the big hitting Norwegian would end the day with one hand on the FedEx title.

2023 Tour Championship Round 4 Betting Preview

From a betting point of view the odds would indicate that this year’s Tour Championship is all but over.

Currently sitting at odds of -1000, it would take something remarkable for Viktor Hovland not to convert the six stroke lead that he currently enjoys. However, stranger things have happened, and if Hovland does succumb to the pressure there is some value that can be found.

The most obvious betting play is Xander Schauffele. Currently the Norwegian’s nearest challenger, the Californian had a good day yesterday moving up the leaderboard courtesy of a gutsy 68.

The game plan for today is clear, and expect Schauffele to come out swinging hard on the front 9 as he attempts to eat into Hovland’s lead as quickly as possible.

If you don’t feel Schauffele is the play then the next best alternative could be Keegan Bradley.

After sharing the lead after the first round, Bradley couldn’t quite keep up the frenetic level of scoring. Whilst he couldn’t make any further inroads into the leaders yesterday, his round of 70 was better than most. Although seven behind, he has already showed this week that he is more than capable of lighting up the course and he could be worth a small play today.
