Wyndham Clark produced one of the best rounds of his professional career to break clear of the chasing pack and lead by two heading into the final round of this year’s Wells Fargo Championship. The 2023 Wells Fargo Championship Round 3 Recap & Round 4 Odds below.
In hot pursuit of Clark is Xander Schauffele who will start in today’s final grouping two shots behind his American compatriot. Both Clark and Schauffele hold a sizeable lead over the rest of the field with Tyrell Hatton and Adam Scott the pair’s closest challengers five shots off the lead.
Clark produces special round, Schauffele in hot pursuit.
Starting yesterday’s round in a tie for the lead with Tyrell Hatton and Nate Lashley, Wyndham Clark produced one of the best rounds of his career as he shot a stunning -8, 71.
His round comprised of eight birdies and no dropped shots, Clark’s approach play was nothing short of exemplary with the American hitting a stunning seventeen out of eighteen greens in regulation.
Able to break free from the rest of the field, Clark is looking to win his first PGA title since earning his tour card back in 2018.
For a while during yesterday’s third round it looked as if Clark would have a huge lead in today’s final round. However, world number 5 Xander Schauffele was able to make vital ground late on his round to close the gap at the top to just two shots.
Starting the day one stroke behind the third round leaders, Schauffele was able to pick up four strokes in his final five holes to ensure he stayed within touching distance of Clark at the top.
Starting yesterday’s third round in the lead alongside Clark, Tyrell Hatton and Nate Lashley enjoyed mix fortunes.
Hatton will still harbor hopes of victory following a solid three under 68. Five off the lead, Hatton will have to produce something special early on in today’s fourth round to fire himself back up the leaderboard.
After double bogeying the first hole yesterday Lashley was never quite able to respond. The American did well to repair the damage done on the first hole but an even par 71 will see him start today eight strokes behind Clark.
With Clark two clear of Schauffele and five clear of the rest of the field it isn’t a surprise to see that he has been placed as the heavy favorite for victory.
Although he headed into the week largely flying under the radar, he bought good form into the tournament with two top ten finishes in his last last four starts. Clearly hitting the ball as well as he ever has in his professional career, he will be hoping to finally land his maiden tour title after posting several runner up up efforts.
Starting the day two strokes behind Clark, Schauffele’s odds of +150 suggest that many believe he can bridge the gap and win his 8th PGA Tour title.
Like Clark, he headed into this week’s tournament in great form following three consecutive top ten finishes. A complete player from tee to green, Schauffele will be hoping that nerves get the better of Clark and he will be in a position to take advantage.
Tyrell Hatton rounds out the top three in the betting but his chances of winning his second PGA title look slim. Costly errors saw the Englishman drop back yesterday and he will have to play perfect golf in order to claw back the five stroke deficit he currently faces.
The best long shot of the day could be Harris English. English hasn’t dropped a shot over his last 36 holes and in that span has picked up ten shots. Whilst he will start today six shots off the lead, he is hitting the ball as well as anyone in the field and could offer some value at huge odds.
