Matthew Fitzpatrick won his first major at the US Open title while shooting six under par. Fitzpatrick started Sunday in a tie with Will Zalatoris but when Zalatoris missed a 14-foot birdie putt on 18.
The Englishman won his 10th professional event and first in the US. He moved to 10th in the world rankings.
Zalatoris finished 2nd for the third time in a major and six top 10’s in nine starts and is now 12th in the World Rankings.
Top-ranked player Scottie Scheffler also finished a shot back after missing a birdie putt on 18.
Meanwhile, at the LPGA Classic, there was a log jam at the top with eight players within two shots of the lead and it ended in a three-way tie between US golfers Nelly Korda and Jennifer Kupcho and Irish woman Leona Maguire at 18under.
It was the 25-year-old Kupcho winning her 2nd event of the season and her third win as a professional.
This week the PGA heads to Connecticut for the Travelers Championship where Harris English is the defending champion and sits at 70/1.
