It was an exciting weekend of golf events around the world. Let us dive into the 2023 Byron Nelson Championship Highlights. Also, let’s look at the picks for the PGA Championship.
The PGA tour was in Dallas for the Byron Nelson Championship and Jason Day won his first tournament in 105 starts. Day shot a 9 under par 62 to win by a shot over Austin Eckroat and Si Woo Kim. Favored Scottie Scheffler finished 5th. For Day, it was his 13th career victory and moved the former #1 to 20th in the world rankings. He moved to #1 after a victory in the 2015 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits and is one of the favorites for this week.
Dustin Johnson overcame a triple bogey to birdie 18 and force a three way playoff with Cameron Smith and Brendan Grace. Johnson won the playoff for his second LIV event.
The South African team “Stingers” won the team portion of the tournament. The next LIV Golf event will be May 26th at Trump National in Washington DC.
The PGA Championship will be played at Oak Hill Country Club outside of Rochester, New York. It is the 14th time the event has been held in New York. Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka have won four of the last six PGA Championships and sit at 20/1. Scottie Scheffler took a month off before playing in the Byron Nelson and is the 15/2 favorite. Jon Rahm is next on the odds board at 8/1 with Rory McIlroy at 12/1. Jordan Spieth is looking for a career grand slam and is 30/1 along with last week’s winner Jason Day.
Our pick this week is 32-year-old Max Homa who sits at 35/1 and has 6 career PGA victories. Homa plays championship courses well and this course has never been kind to favorites.
