It was an exciting weekend of golf events around the world. Let us dive into what happened in the Farmers Insurance Open and the Dubai Desert Classic. Also, we will preview the Pebble Beach Pro-Am of the PGA Tour. Here are the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open Highlights.
Max Homa came from five shots off the lead to win the Farmers Insurance Open by two shots over Keegan Bradley on a rare Saturday final round at Torrey Pines.
Rahm birdied 16 and Thompson was unlucky on 17 when his birdie putt hit the flag stick. Rahm won his 4th tournament in his past ten starts and moved to number three in the world.
While Jon Rahm was trying to reach number one in the world, the man currently holding that spot, Rory McIlroy rolled in a birdie on 18 to overcome a late charge by Patrick Reed to take the Dubai Desert Classic. Reed was involved in two controversies over the weekend.
On Wednesday McIlroy ignored Reed on the practice range and Patrick responded by tossing a tee at Rory as he walked away.
Then on Sunday, Reed hit his tee shot into a Palm tree. Despite video evidence he was looking up the wrong tree, he claimed to identify his ball and took a very favorable drop and only made a bogey which dropped him into a temporary tie before McIlroy’s birdie on 18 to win.
US Open Champion Matt Fitzpatrick is next at 10/1 and Viktor Hovland is the only other top 20 player and is 11/1. Defending champion Tom Hoge sits at 18/1 and Justin Rose who nearly won the 2019 US Open at this course is 25/1.
