2023 Memorial Tournament Highlights

While no one doubted his talent and he has been highly ranked for most of his professional career, Viktor Hovland had never won a PGA event on US soil.  On Sunday at the Memorial, that all changed when Hovland birdied 17 and watched Denny McCarthy bogey the 18th. On the first playoff hole, Hovland parred the hole and win his 4th PGA event and moved to #5 in the world rankings. 

McCarthy finished a hard luck 2nd and Scottie Scheffler shot the best round of the day to move up 28 spots and finish 3rd.

20-year-old Rose Zang has had quite a two-month period. In April she won the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, then in May she took won her second straight NCAA championship, and then in her first event as a pro, she wins the Americas Open defeating Jennifer Kupcho on the second playoff hole.   

PGA Tour, DP World Tour and LIV Golf merge

On Tuesday morning, the PGA Tour announced a merger with the LIV Golf.  In a move that was a complete surprise to the PGA membership, an announcement was made that all parties have signed an agreement that combines LIV Golf with the commercial business of the PGA tour and the DP World Tour.  The agreement will also end all litigation between the parties   

What’s next on the PGA tour?

The PGA tour heads north of the border for this week’s RBC Canadian OpenRory Mcllroy has won the last two editions though separated by a two-year gap that was caused by covid restrictions.  Rory is the favorite at 5/1.  Tyrrell Hatton is next on the board at 10/1. There is a group of players at 12/1 that includes Sam Burns, Cameron Young, and Matt Fitzpatrick

The course this week is fairly short by PGA standards and we think it will favor golfers that can chip & putt…… that is why our pick is Justin Rose at 18/1
