It was an exciting weekend of golf events around the world. Let us dive into the 2023 Mexican Open Highlights. Also, let’s take a look at the picks for the Wells Fargo Championship.
The PGA tour made a stop in Mexico this week for the Mexican Open played at Vidante Vallarta. A year ago it was Jon Rahm lifting the trophy with Finau watching, but this year Tony Finau started Sunday two shots ahead of the world’s number-one player and shot a 65 to take his 6th PGA title.
The victory was Finau’s second of the season and he joins Rahm, Scottie Scheffler and Max Homa as multiple tournament winners. The victory was the 4th in his last 18 events and has moved Finau to number 11 in the rankings
Having won in Australia last week, there was no doubt that Talor Gooch was playing well. This week in Singapore he not only outlasted Brooks Koepka but then beat Sergio Garcia in a playoff to win his second consecutive LIV event. His team the Range Goats also won the team title for the second week in a row. The next stop on the LIV tour is Tulsa Oklahoma on May 12
With the PGA Championship coming up in two weeks it is only fitting that this week is the Wells Fargo Championship played at the site of the 2017 PGA Championship.
Rory McIlroy is the three-time champion of the tournament on this course and sits at 8/1 odds. Patrick Cantlay is the second choice at 10/1 and Mexican Open champ Tony Finau is 15/1 along with Xander Schauffelle.
The 2017 PGA winner Justin Thomas, two-time winner Max Homa, Jordan Spieth, and Colin Morikawa are all at 20/1. Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm have decided to pass on this event.
Our pick this week is Rory McIlroy who has three wins on this layout and nine top tens in 11 events here in Charlotte.
