It was an exciting weekend of golf events around the world. Let us dive into the 2023 PGA Championship Highlights. Also, let’s look at the picks for the Charles Schwab Challenge and LIV Washington DC.
Brooks Koepka held off Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland to win his third PGA Championship and his fifth major in the past seven years. Koepka was paid 100 million dollars to leave the PGA tour for LIV and he becomes the first member of the tour to win a major. A month ago, he led the Masters by four shots but was caught by Jon Rahm. Koepka moved to 13th in the world rankings.
While Brooks Koepka took home the Wana-maker trophy, it was Michael Block who stole the show. The club pro from Mission Viejo was one over par and finished tied for 15th. The finish guarantees him a spot in next year’s PGA Championship and he collected $288 thousand. The club pro charges $150 for a lesson.
The PGA tour is back in Texas for the Charles Schwab challenge and 11 of the world’s top 30 players will tee it up at Colonial in Fort Worth Texas. Scottie Scheffler, who moved back to the number one spot in the world rankings headlines the field and sits at 9/2.
Defending Champion Sam Burns is 20/1. 2016 champ Jordan Spieth is on the board at 10/1 along with Tony Finau. Viktor Hovland who chased Brooks Koepka on the final day at the PGA Championship is at 12/1. Our pick this week is Justin Rose at 25/1.
The LIV tour will be in Virginia for the Washington DC event and our pick this week is Patrick Reed. While much of the attention will be on the PGA Champion, Brooks admits to not caring much for non-majors, and after a big win, we are looking for a letdown.
Cameron Smith is the favorite at 8/1. Meanwhile, Reed played well in New York and has a history of playing well on these kinds of courses.
