It was an exciting weekend of golf events around the world. Let us dive into the 2023 Phoenix Open Highlights. Also, let’s take a look at the picks for this week’s Genesis Invitational.
In tricky winds, Scottie Scheffler was able to hit just five fairways but was able to shoot 69 to win and repeat as champion of the Phoenix Open. Nick Taylor finished second two shots back and Jon Rahm finished five back in third place. Justin Thomas was 4th and our pick Justin Day who was 50/1 finished in 5th. Scheffler moves back to number one in the world passing Rory McIlroy who finished tied for 32nd.
The PGA’s west coast swing will conclude this week with the Genesis Invitational at Riviera near Los Angeles. This will be the 60th time the event has been played at Riviera and the tournament will include 23 of the top 25 players in the world. Despite the star-studded field, it will be Tiger Woods who will draw the most attention making his first start since the 2022 British Open.
Taking a look at the odds, not surprisingly Jon Rahm at +800, Scottie Scheffler at 10/1, and Rory McIlroy at 11/1 are the favorites. Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele round out the top 5 at 15/1. Defending champion Joaquin Niemann is now part of the LIV tour and will not participate. Tiger Woods sits at 100/1. Our pick this week is Sam Burns who loves the Riviera layout and played well in Phoenix and is 30/1.
