It was an exciting weekend of golf events around the world. Let us dive into the 2023 US Open Highlights. Also, let’s look at the golf betting picks for the Travelers Championship.
As with anything taking place in Hollywood, there was a lot of drama at the 123rd US Open played at the Los Angeles Country Club a block away from the famous Sunset Strip. Opening day saw fan favorite Rickie Fowler shoot 62 and was joined at the top by Xander Schauffele.
Day two was full of surprises as Justin Thomas shot 81 and missed the cut but also saw four-time major champion Rory McIlroy surge to the top of the leaderboard with world number one Scottie Scheffler right behind. Wyndham Clark also moved to the top of the leaderboard.
As we headed for the weekend, it narrowed down to McIlroy, Fowler, Schauffele, and Clark at the top and while others tried to challenge. These four seemed poised to battle it out. On Saturday Schauffele started to struggle and Fowler fell apart on Sunday and soon it was just Clark and McIlroy at the top. Clark who won his first event five weeks ago in the Wells Fargo Championship stayed steady and won by a single shot.
With the US Open completed, the PGA tour heads to Connecticut for the Travelers Championship. This will be a designated event which means all the top players will be on the field.
Scottie Scheffler is 6/1 on the basis of five straight top 5 finishes. He is followed by Rory McIlroy at 9/1 with four straight top 10’s. Jon Rahm and Patrick Cantlay sit at 10/1. Defending champion Xander Schauffele rounds out the top 5 at 12/1.
