It was an exciting weekend of golf events around the world. Let us dive into The Players 2023 Highlights. Also, let’s take a look at the picks for the Valspar Championship and the LIV Golf Tucson.
Scottie Scheffler started the final day two shots ahead and after three holes he was tied with Min Woo Lee. Scheffler went on to shoot 69 to win by 5 strokes while Lee finished 9 shots back in a tie for 6th.
Tyrrell Hatton finished second while Viktor Hovland and Tom Hoge tied for third. Jon Rahm was forced to withdraw prior to the second round with stomach flu and Rory McIlroy missed the cut.
The victory moved Scheffler to number one in the world with his 6th PGA win in 13 months.
The PGA tour will wrap up the Florida swing with the Valspar Championship at Innsbrook Copperhead course.
Sam Burns is the two-time defending champion and sits at 15/1. Justin Thomas is the favorite at 9/1 with 2015 champion Jordan Spieth next at 12/1. Matt Fitzpatrick is the third choice in wagering at 14/1. 2017 champion Adam Hadwin is at 25/1 while 2011 champ Gary Woodland winner is 40/1.
Our pick this week is Tommy Fleetwood at 20/1. Fleetwood played well at the Players until the last 9 holes and finished 16th in this event last season.
The LIV tour will be in Tucson for the second event of the season. Charles Howell won the first event in Mexico and his team Crushers won the team event.
Cameron Smith is the favorite at 9/1 with Dustin Johnson and Joaquin Niemann next at 10/1. Abraham Ancer is 12/1 along with our pick this week Paul Casey. Casey finished 5th in the Saudi Invitational and was 4th at Mayakoba. An interesting fact is that Casey has two career victories in the PGA Valspar.
