2023 Masters Tournament Highlights

2023 Masters Tournament Highlights

It was an exciting weekend of golf events around the world. Let us dive into the 2023 Masters Tournament Highlights. Also, let’s take a look at the picks for the RBC Heritage.

2023 Masters Tournament Highlights

The 87th edition of The Masters had a little bit of everything.  You had the LIV vs PGA rivalry. The return of Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods to the course where they each won their last major. But more importantly, there was the weather, and lots of it starting Thursday afternoon and going through Saturday evening.

In the end, the story was a dominant victory by Spaniard Jon Rahm after going head-to-head with four-time major winner Brooks Koepka. Six-time champion Phil Mickelson tied Koepka for second after shooting a 65 in the final round.

Play was suspended Saturday with Koepka ahead of Rahm by four but by the time the round was over the margin was two.  Rahm went on to shoot a 69 while Koepka had a 3 over par 75 and Jon Rahm was getting fitted for a green jacket. Rahm’s second major title came 40 years after fellow Spaniard Seve Ballesteros won his second Masters and on a day that would have been his 66th birthday.  Rahm moved to Number one in the world.

Tiger Woods made the cut but was forced to withdraw on Sunday morning while Rory McIlroy missed the cut and then announced he will skip this week’s RBC Heritage.  Will Zalatoris also announced he had back surgery and will miss the remainder of the season

What’s coming up on the PGA Tour?

This week the PGA tour heads to Hilton Head for the RBC Heritage which is now a designated event with a 20 million dollar purse.  26 of the world’s top 30 will be playing and Masters Champ Jon Rahm is cofavored with Scottie Scheffler at 8/1. Patrick Cantlay is next at 12/1. Collin Morikawa is 15/1 and defending champion Jordan Spieth is 20/1.

It is hard to imagine Jon Rahm coming back with a victory and Jordan Spieth has stated he is exhausted after playing 8 tournaments in ten weeks.  Our pick is 25 year old Sahith Theegala at 55/1 based on his hot play all year and the probability that many of the older players are tired after a grueling Masters
